Using Analytics to Create a Competitive Culture for Greatness!

"Stats Don’t Lie." How can you improve what you don't measure? I am a firm believer using analytics, and statistic can create a competitive culture, and brings out the best in a player. This is why I created a Next Level 3on3 on website on the NBA Hoop Figures NBA Rec.to track and rank players using statistics. Ranking players fuels the competition for our nightly games, because everyone wants to finish First, but no one wants to finish last. I personally experienced the Power of Analytics during my senior year playing at Montana State University.

Our newly appointed Head Coach needed to create a competitive culture to begin his tenure. So, he decided to redecorated our entire locker room with 15 brown wooden plaques, that look like they were made in some middle school wood shop class. Each plaque had the name of each basketball categories, i.e Points, Assist, Steals, Rebounds..etc..etc. and during practice he had assistant record our daily performance. I became fascinated at my name in every category, and often found myself alone after each practice talking to myself on ways of how I can move up the leaderboard in each section. So I focused on winning every drill in practice in order for me to be Number#1. Each practice I challenged myself to be the bully on the block in every drill. As a result a pecking order was established, and the board confirmed because I was in the top 2 in every category , and I secure a starting position.

During my senior season and being fueled through statistics, and analytics in practice. I was now confident, relax and ready for battle. I never worried about who we were playing, or stressing myself out on whether I was going to play good or bad, all I had to do is just compete, and everything will take care of itself. That is exactly what I did, and I over achieve on the big stage. I was selected to the All-Tournament Team, with Utah Jazz legend Carl Malone aka.(The Mailman) at University of Tennessee at Volunteer Classic, during the Christmas Break. At the end of the year I was voted by coaches and teammates, Best Defensive Player, Team MVP, and selected 2nd-Team All-Big-Sky Conference. I was a senior in college and looked what I accomplished in one year. Imagine if your child were exposed to this system at early in his basketball, the attitude and character that is develop from playing in a number driven culture.

I believe playing 3on3 is more beneficial for young players skill development. Less players, more touches equals more shots. My Next Level 3on3 Basketball Community may the perfect format practicing social distancing in training players by keeping them in small groups for a 6 week period. Great time to organize your private #COVID19 free Basketball community with 16 friends, and family members, and see who’s is really TOP DAWG on the Block.
